Wasps in the War on Terror

This is interesting. They are now looking at training wasps - the bug not the White Anglo Saxon Protestants - to detect nerve gas and explosives. Somebody better tell Lucky he should stop eating them!

Personally I find this sort of thing both alarming and revolting. This is not a case of drug-sniffing dogs but of playing Dr. Frankenstien or perhaps more accurately Dr. Moreau, with a great risk of abuse. An insect is not exactly the same as a cuddly animal, but this type of experimenting is not being limited to lower order creatures. Check out this article:

Using sharks, monkeys, etc as remote-brain-controlled spies (the excuse given) or weapons (the real reason)? Sounds like science fiction right?


I almost shudder to think where our civilization will be a few years down the road...
